A look at the relased television coverage reveals that Latics have been given the short end of the stick when it comes to televised games.

Many local fans will no doubt celebrate that Wigan have only been chosen once by SKY and not at all by new soocer broadcaster ESPN in the first four months of the 2009/10 campaign.

Many fans however due to geography or finance are unable to attend games in person and rely on the TV for their only coverage of live Latics games.

The only other club to suffer in the same manner are our cousins up the road in Horwich whilst league newcomers Wolves, Birmingham and Burnley are all featured three times.

Hull who escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth, are featured three times.

In contrast the big four are heavily featured with Chelsea and Manchester United featuring nine times each and Liverool and Arsenal seven times each.

With Roberto Martinez’s reutation for playing attacking football it is to be hoped that the TV broadcasters will warm to the ‘new Latics’ and we will feature as a live option more often as the season progresses.
