Latics went to Molineux on Saturday and came away with a point, two first half goals, one each from James Perch and Marc-Antoine Fortune, gave Latics the lead at half-time after they had been behind to a 30th minute Edwards header.

Wolves came back strong in the second period and equalised when Bakary Sako fired home from the edge of the area.

Following the game both bosses spoke to the press, with Latics boss Uwe Rösler revealing that he set his side up to stifle the way that Wolves play and admitting that in the summer he’d told goalscorer Marc-Antoine Fortune that he wasn’t part of his plans for this season, let’s take a look at what was said:

Latics boss Uwe Rösler – ‘We had a game plan set out for how we wanted to address the way they play and, off the ball, at times, I thought we were excellent.’

‘When we had the ball, we didn’t play as good as we can or with the freedom we can play with and I don’t know why that is, perhaps it’s still a confidence issue or whether it’s because we focus too much on how we win the ball.

‘With the excellent players we have, there should, at times, be a little bit more composure but overall I felt the players continued from last Tuesday with the effort, the determination, the discipline and the desire to win.

‘There were a lot of things that were good; we followed the game plan hard and put a lot in to that but when we win the ball, that’s when football really starts.

‘I think we have to address that and play with more freedom but overall a fair point for both teams.’

On a goalscoring return to the team for Marc-Antoine Fortune Rösler continued – ‘I think Marco has been exceptional’

‘He was told by me at the beginning of the season that I would prefer to use the players who have joined the club and Marco has been an exceptional professional, he kept focused, he concentrated on keeping himself fit, he’s good around the place and now we’re in a situation where I needed proven quality in the Championship and that’s what Marco gives us because he has that.

‘Today, he was excellent, he was good against Bournemouth but today he was excellent; he deserved his goal and I’m happy that I didn’t let him go out on loan.’

On Leon Barnett’s first start of the season – ‘Leon Barnett was good last Tuesday when he came on and I think today he was excellent, he took his chance and he will be in the team now.

‘I think I have options but players have to realise that I can only give them so many chances because we’re a top club in the Championship and, with the personnel we have, it can’t take you ten games to find your form.’

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett – ‘We played very well and are disappointed with getting a draw’

‘I thought we showed a lot of quality today and fantastic spirit and overall were the better side.

‘There was a lot of good play and we were unlucky not to win.

‘We took the game to Wigan in both halves – there were chances to win the game and we are frustrated we didn’t.

‘But if you give poor goals away you give yourself a mountain to climb and we have now conceded eight in the last three games.

‘They were disappointing goals and we will be looking at them because if we want to be successful we are going to have to improve on that.

‘Realistically you have to concede zeros and ones on a consistent basis to earn points – you can’t really expect to get too many points when you are conceding as we have.

‘It has been a strength of ours previously and we know where we need to improve and we have the players to do it.

‘Equally there are aspects of our play, our quality and spirit, which are very good.

‘We need to base ourselves on the good things we are doing and then eradicate the mistakes we are making.

‘We have got a lot of attacking strength in the side but we need to be able to do that and be solid.

‘If you look at the goals against column being a base, that base hasn’t been there in the last three games and that is the reason we have taken two points out of nine.

‘The positive for us is that we feel we have been solid and not faultless going forward but we have something to base our season on now into the winter.’
