Latics boss Roberto Martinez spoke to the clubs official website following the defeat at Newcastle, Martinez was obviously disappointed with conceding a goal late in the game and he was also disappointed with the performance of match referee Neil Swarbrick.

Swarbrick awarded Newcastle 22 free kicks, opposed to the Latics getting just 7, something not quite right there

Martinez said: ‘To get beat with a goal that came ten minutes from the end is very difficult to take’

‘We knew it was going to be a very difficult place to come but I thought we neutralised Newcastle today, we’re just very disappointed that we couldn’t get the result that the performance deserved.’

‘When you are in a run of poor results it’s fair to say that key decisions become very important.

‘Mohamed Diame’s situation in the first half was clearly a free-kick and I even thought it was in the penalty area when it happened. To not even get a free kick was very disappointing.

‘They really support their side here at St. James’ Park and you need a really strong referee.

‘Unfortunately today we were not going to get anything in that respect, which is very frustrating.’
