The Latics left Tyneside with nothing despite a much improved performance than of late against Newcastle, chances were created but couldn’t be taken with Hugo Rodallega and Momo Diame both guilty of spurning opportunities in front of goal, but both played their part in a solid Latics display that deserved at least a point.

Ali in goal had no chance with Cabaye’s strike but he did make a great save from Leon Best in the first half, the return of Maynor Figueroa to left back gave the defence and the team as a whole some balance and the Honduras international had a good game.

Antolin Alcaraz was solid in the centre of defence and he made some great challenges to cut out dangerous situations. The midfield were busy and bright, Ben Watson, Dave Jones and Momo Diame all had good games with Jones being the pick of the bunch in my opinion.

Hugo, Victor Moses and Albert Crusat caused problems for the Newcastle defence with their pace and trickery and there was a bit of spark going forward which was good to see, my man of the match for this game though goes to Dave Jones.

I thought Jones was solid in the middle, his delivery from corners was very good and he supported the attack going forward, so Jones is my choice but who is yours?
