The first away game of the season brought the first clean sheet, the first goals and first points of this new campaign for the Latics, Di Santo and Koné bagged one each to make Martinez’s men a happy bunch.
The defence played really well, Ali made some fine saves, one in particular when he tipped a Lallana shot onto the crossbar, the two Mac’s in midfield were once again full of running, James McCarthy in particular looked class
Up front both Di Santo and Koné did what we wanted them to do, keep the ball well, work hard and score, but for me the man of the match was Shaun Maloney, he adds a touch of class to the team, his interlinking play with the strikers and midfield is fantastic and his pass to put Di Santo in for his goal was simply sublime, so Maloney for me but who was your Latics man of the match v Southampton
