Latics play Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday for the first time since 2002 when we lost 1-0 at the then JJB Stadium in the LDV Trophy, the last time we met Donny in the league was way back in February 1997
Possibly the most famous game between the two clubs, for Latics fans at least, came in 1965 when, following a 2-2 draw at Bell Vue, the Latics played Doncaster at Springfield Park in an FA cup 1st round replay
Early in the first half Latics striker Harry Lyon was carried from the field on a stretcher with suspected ankle ligament damage, with no substitutes allowed at this stage and his team down to ten men Lyon had his ankle and foot heavily strapped up, took a tot of whiskey as a pain killer and returned to the field of play to score a second half hat-trick and secure a 3-1 win for the Latics, the stuff legends are made of
The Latics and Doncaster have met 29 times in all competitions
Latics 12 wins, Doncaster 9, draws 8
