Wigan Athletic travelled up to Sunderland hoping to get their first win since August and they did just that in dramatic fashion with Franco Di Santo`s last gasp winner. Vital Latics member Jonathan Moffatt, aka J_Mo, made the trip up to the Stadium of Light and he provides us with his player ratings, over to you Jonathan:

Al-Habsi – 6
Has to take most of the blame for Sunderland’s goal, and seems to be developing a nasty habit this season of parrying the ball back into the danger area. Made up for his error later on somewhat with a couple of decent saves.

Stam – 8
Got forward well and caused problems, and a decent defensive display too. My man of the match.

Gohouri – 7
Much more solid performance in defence from Big Steve, and covered well for Stam who was allowed more license to push forward.

Caldwell – 7
Organised the defence well after a dodgy opening 15 minutes, and looks far less calamitous in this new system.

Figueroa – 6
Not quite as solid as our other defenders, but improved in the second half.

Jones – 6
No problems in defence, but seemed to disrupt our attacking play and put himself under pressure unnecessarily. Granted he is playing out of position though.

Diame – 7
Not as impressive as recent weeks, but still worked hard and competed well in the middle of the park.

McCarthy – 6
Has improved since being picked in the starting lineup again, but is still some way off his best.

Gomez – 7
Has seemingly transformed his game after scoring his goal last week, and got us back in the game with a well taken penalty. Is still a big weakness for us defensively though.

Sammon – 7
Great at turning defenders – it’s just a shame he doesn’t have the technique to go with it, which cost him a couple of scoring opportunities.

Moses – 8
Looked a lot more dangerous. Still question marks over his end product, but can take credit for the fact that he caused problems and won the penalty that got us the equaliser.

Subs:

McArthur – 7
Energetic performance coming off the bench, and showed great determination to put Wes Brown under pressure in the dying seconds to set the stage for the winning goal.

Di Santo – 7
Worked hard and was rewarded for his efforts with a tap-in at the end.
