Following on from Saturday’s home defeat to Bournemouth, the Latics travel to the City Ground on Wednesday to take on Nottingham Forest in a Championship clash, taking charge of only his second ever Wigan Athletic game will be West Midlands based official Oliver Langford. His first was back in December when Norwich visited the DW Stadium, we may have lost 1-0, but not a single card was issued to either side by Langford and he only awarded 16 free kicks in the whole game, just five of which were against the Latics.

The name ring a bell? Well Langford was the man in charge at Bloomfield Road when the infamous Paul Ince incident took place, the water bottle into the crowd, followed by Ince confronting the match officials, more so Langford’s 4th official that day Mark Pottage, in the tunnel after the final whistle, Ince was subsequently banned for five games, the first of which was against the Latics when the Blackpool supporters all wore Paul Ince masks, oh I remember it well!

Langford has been on the National List of referees since the 2008/09 season, as previously mentioned up until this campaign he’s never refereed a Latics game, though he was fourth official when we met Bournemouth in an FA cup 3rd round replay down at Dean Court in January 2013 – erm wasn’t that the year we went on to win the damn thing…always nice to get an opportunity to mention our FA cup win.

So far this season Oliver Langford has been in charge of 22 games, just seven of which have been in the Championship.
