McCarthy And Lopez Injury Updates – Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic players Adrian Lopez and James McCarthy have joined the incredibly demoralising injury list at the DW Stadium, both players picked up knocks in Saturday’s defeat to Norwich at Carrow Road

Lopez had to be carried off on 90 minutes when it appeared that he had suffered a hamstring pull chasing Canaries sub Bennett, a muscle strain that happens, though James McCarthy’s injury had a much more sinister look about it

Norwich ‘hard man’ Bradley Johnson deliberately stamped on McCarthy whilst he was on the floor, right in front of the referee, obviously taking out our man of the moment, very cynical and cowardly

Latics boss Roberto Martinez said about the injuries – Adrian Lopez picked up a nasty hamstring injury and James McCarthy was involved in one of the most infuriating incidents of the game having been targeted by the opposition and picking up a nasty ankle injury as a result.

‘I doubt James will make the Arsenal game next weekend and we’ll have to assess Adrian in the week but he’s a doubt as well.’

‘It was a nasty challenge, one incident off the ball’

‘The referee has seen it and has given Johnson a yellow card. It is one of those actions you don’t want to see. James McCarthy has been in good form, and they took him out of the game, which is very disappointing.’

‘It is his ankle ligaments, we will X-ray it and get the results from the scans very shortly.’
