New Latics boss Malky Mackay has said that he will weigh up the squad ahead of the transfer window opening in just over five weeks time.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Mackay says that there is a lot of quality about the place but the players need to produce on match days, the Latics have a squad that many pundits feel should be challenging up at the top end of the Championship table rather than floundering around in the bottom three, Mackay doesn’t appear to be afraid of making changes and says that he will speak to Latics owner Dave Whelan if he feels that new blood needs to be brought in.

Malky Mackay says – ‘We’ll obviously have a look at the squad first and foremost’

‘It’s a squad full of talented players, but they need to show that on the field.

‘If we feel it’s something that needs tweaking, I will go and speak to Mr Whelan about that.’

With just 19 goals in 18 league games so far this season, converting chances is one area that needs working upon, whether that is with the current staff or with the introduction of new blood remains to be seen. Riera and Delort might do ok if they get a chance and a run in the side, neither have had much of one so far.
