Former Wigan Athletic club captain Jason DeVos announced his retirement from football yesterday with his current club Ipswich Town failing to make the Championship play-offs.

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton confirmed that JDV had been offered a new contract but the big fella had turned it down to pursue a career as a pundit working for a Canadian broadcaster, DeVos had always stated that he would return to Canada when his kids were of school age.

DeVos` career in the UK began with Darlington he was soon spotted playing well and moved north of the border to Dundee; it was from there that former manager Paul Jewell brought big Jas to the JJB for the princely sum of £500,000 in July 2001

DeVos left Wigan for Portman Road on a free transfer in May 2004 thinking that the Suffolk club would have a better chance of making the Premier League than the Latics, hindsight

Jason DeVos made 91 league appearances for Wigan Athletic scoring 15 goals along the way, he was the captain of the record breaking side that won the 2nd Division (now league 1) Championship and he is also a Latics legend and a gentleman.

Good luck Jas from all at Vital Wigan
