Wigan Athletic Chairman Dave Whelan was completely over the moon with the Latics terrific end to the season, securing Premier League survival with a great 1-0 victory away at Stoke that sets up a seventh consecutive Premier League campaign.
Interviewed by Sky Sports at the end of yesterdays game the Latics owner said that it isn`t about the money, but about the players getting what they deserve
Clearly delighted, talking to Sky`s Gabriel Clarke, Whelan sounded hoarse as he was drenched with champagne by Charles N`Zogbia and Hugo Rodallega, but the 74 year old had a broad smile as he heaped praise on Latics boss Roberto Martinez.
Speaking to Sky Sports News Whelan said: “It`s not about the money, it`s staying in the Premier League, our boys have deserved it”
“Roberto (Martinez) has been absolutely outstanding, this is our seventh year in the Premier League
“Wigan is a small town, we are a small club, but we have great team spirit”
