The battle for Amr Zaki`s signature has started in earnest with Zamalek chairman Mamdouh Abbas starting a war of words refuting Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce`s claims that Latics have first option on the Egyptian

Last week Steve Bruce said that so long as Zaki fulfilled certain criteria then he would become a Latics player at the end of the season this appears to have angered Abbas and he insisted Zamalek will have the last word on Zaki’s destination.

Abbas told reporters:

‘Reports indicating that Wigan have an option to buy Zaki if they pay a certain amount of money are totally untrue’

‘The clauses in Zaki’s contract are very clear. Wigan signed him on loan for £1.25 million, and they would pay further 500,000 if the player scored ten goals this season.

‘But Zamalek will have the sole right to sell Zaki to any interested club next summer.’

This saga has a long way to go yet and I am sure that Zamalek wont want to give him up easily, can see this ending up in the courts
