Wigan v Tottenham: Latics Baying For Blood

Wigan take on Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur in desperation to try and avenge their 9-1 drubbing at White Hart Lane earlier in the campaign and left many a Latics fan heartbroken.

However, Wigan could be and probably will be without the influential Titus Bramble, meaning Paul Scharner or Emmerson Boyce could fall back into the Centre Back role, but lets hope Titus can make it for the big game. If he can’t, I know he doesn’t like to, but I am hoping Scharner can fill that role as opposed to Boyce. Nothing against Boycey but I just feel Scharner could pose more of a defensive barrier due to his height and his ability in the air when the likes of Peter Crouch come calling.

Other than the possible absence of Bramble, the Latics have a fully fledged squad to choose from, but they’ll need to be at their best to stop Hotspur. However they’re not in great away form themselves, despite a promising start to the campaign.

One player whose going to be returning to the fold for the first time is Wilson Palacios, a player many Latics fans hold dear to their hearts and fair play to the lad, he never wanted to leave Wigan so he showed true loyalty to the club as do many ex-players who left, most notably Antonio Valencia who always refused to celebrate a goal or an assist for a goal against us, which is a nice gesture as he obviously has fond memories from his time at the club here. Whenever I see him in a Red Devils shirt, it still makes me reminisce. Its just a real shame that at the moment, Wigan shall be nothing more than a selling club. I hope that trend changes soon.

Tottenham have quality all over the park but if Wolverhampton (no disrespect) can turn them over, Wigan can certainly give them a run for their money and coming away with a point against Spurs could be a good day for the Latics but a win would be absolutely superb. Anyone would love the win whose a Latics fan but in truth, Wigan who concede as well as Tottenham’s recent poor form on the road suggests this could end in the draw as both teams need the points but for different reasons.

ROB’S PREDICTION
================

I believe this is going to be a tough day for both Wigan and Tottenham Hotspur. I can see two goals in this match from Jermaine Defoe and Marcelo Moreno Martins. Wigan will make it very difficult for the Spurs and (I don’t want to tempt fate) Spurs have tasted victory just once on this ground in four attempts. The other two results were two draws and a win for the home side.

Wigan 1 Tottenham 1

ROB’S FINAL THOUGHTS
=====================

I have two thoughts today. One is the bitter plight Pompey are going through – I hope desperately there is light for them at the end of the tunnel. Good luck, Pompey!

Secondly, Huddersfield Town are on the rise so lets give three cheers to my dad’s team as I really want them to do well for my long suffering dad as a Terriers fan!
