Wigan boss Paul Jewell is looking to bolster his squad as he attemps to push Wigan up the table.

The bid is said to be near the highest fee Wigan have payed for a player. The current record is £5.5m for former Birmingham and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey.

Boss Paul Jewell has already been active in the January window securing the signature of 3 players, Kristofer Haestad and Andreas Granqvist on loan and David Unsworth a free transfer from Sheffield United.

Jewell is quoted in the Wigan evening post saying;

‘We have made a substantial offer for a player, almost a club record in fact,’

‘We are waiting to hear on that one.

‘Am I hopeful? Yes, but you never know what might happen in the transfer market.

‘I’m not going to say in what position the lad we are after plays, but we feel it would be a good signing for us.’

Who do you think this mystery man is your views are much appreciated.
