During the January transfer window, Carlo Nash was reportedly linked with a move to the Premiership to join Fulham. However the move didn’t materialise and moving a month along, Latics have signed Nash on a one month-long deal. Paul Jewell is currently having some goalkeeping difficulties as Kirkland is now sidelined for around six weeks after surgery on a torn ligament in his finger.

Mike Pollitt is also out with a thigh injury and Nash is expected to cover for Wigan until they return to fitness level.

‘Carlo is a great pro, exactly the right sort of player to come in and play a role for me in these circumstances,’ said Jewell told Sky Sports.

‘He is a good shot-stopper and likes to command his box.

‘He is experienced at this level and I have no doubt about his ability to move back up to the Premiership.’

Carlo Nash responded in a positive manner and is relishing the prospect of playing Premiership football. ‘It’s great to have a chance of playing in the Premiership again’, said Nash

‘I realise I’ll have to fight for my place with john Filan, who is a great keeper with a lot of experience, but I hope I can help the team for the next month, or however long the agreement lasts.’

Carlo Nash was formerly at Manchester City before joining Preston North End, where he holds a club record of 24 clean sheets within a season in 2005-2006. He is expected to go straight into the squad for the Wednesday clash against Watford.
