Wigan Athletic face a nervous wait to find out the full of extent of Michael Jacobs thigh injury, which forced him off at half-time in Wigan’s 2-0 win over Walsall on Saturday.

The winger has played a big part in Latics’ early season success, scoring four already this season, including a vital late winner over Northampton Town.

With the side already lacking width, losing Jacobs for an extended period could provide Paul Cook with a serious problem. Ryan Colclough will be waiting in the wings, hoping to deliver if given the opportunity.

Wigan boss Paul Cook told WiganToday: ‘The squad is starting to look a little stretched now. We’ve decided to play Scunthorpe next week- even though we could have called the game off due to international call-ups- because we don’t want to get involved with a fixture pile-up.’
