Wigan – Change before it’s too late

Yesterdays performance against Portsmouth at the JJB was clueless, passionless and about as depressing as when I saw the Latics play when Kenny Swain was in charge.

Whats happened in the weeks since the Sunderland victory?

Against Sunderland (and Middlesbrough) we played fluent football, lots of running off the ball with all the players playing for each other and the club.

Yesterday was the culmination of a series of inept performances which leave us like a team with no idea; perhaps we had a false dawn back in September.

At Old Trafford in the second half we capitulated and Hutchings laughed about taking Rooney on loan and said we must take the positives out of the game.

What positives, I hope he meant that during an extremely heated players meeting that he took some responsibility, and whilst he laughed about taking Rooney on loan, the whole of the Premiership was laughing at us.

Portsmouth are not a side that will roll over but at least we should have been getting at them, yesterday looked more like a game we dare not lose than a game that we should try and win.

We were attacking with two maybe three players at most, afraid to over commit in case we got caught, Hutchings in his post match comments said that we chased the game when we went behind.

Did we, I mustn`t have been at the JJB then and I couldn`t have watched the game again on Sky, because in that match the home side who played in blue and white stripes when they went a goal down did nothing to chase the game.

They continued to pack the midfield and even dropped a forward back (if you can call Aghahowa a forward), and still would not commit players forward.

The crowd left in numbers yesterday and whilst I cant condone this I understand because it was dross from the home side on a mammoth scale

Hutchings has looked like a man under pressure for the past few weeks yesterday he acted like one; he blamed injuries and chasing the game for such a poor inept performance.

Steve Coppell interviewed after Readings defeat at Blackburn said he had messed up, it was his fault he played a system that didn`t work and changed it round.

Hutchings didn`t know how to change things round, he had a centre half (Scharner) playing on the right wing for goodness sake

I have defended the appointment of Chris Hutchings as Latics boss because everyone deserves a chance.

Hes had his chance and we are in a mess, we are fast becoming another Bolton and we are in serious trouble with a squad that should be comfortably capable of mid-table security.

It`s no good letting things stay the same till the end of the season because we will be in another division by then, we need a change and we need one now.

People may argue that we are missing influential players, I agree, but it`s not the players but the way we are playing that is the concern, utterly clueless and passionless.

Maybe Hutchings has lost the dressing room, there were one or two couldn`t be bothered performances yesterday, but what ever it is we need to change the manager and need to now

Do you feel its Hutchings fault or does the buck stop somewhere else?
