Wigan Athletic have been heavily speculated regarding possible transfer targets over the past few days, lets see if we can get up to date with these.

Amr Zaki scored the winning goal in the Egyptian Cup final at the weekend and was due to join the Latics on a 12 month loan at a cost of £1.8 million with a view to a permanent move at the end of his loan period.

Now the chairman of his current club, Zamalek, says Zaki cant leave until they have found a suitable replacement

Vital Wigan says ‘give them Aghahowa’.

Hendry Thomas played in the Honduras league championship play-off at the weekend and like Zaki he came out a winner with his side Olimpia winning 1-0

Thomas and compatriot Maynor Figueroa play for Honduras this week, Latics boss Steve Bruce is flying out to take in the game and then tie up both players to the JJB for next season.

Vital Wigan understands that Thomas will join on a year long loan and Figueroa will get a 2 year deal

John Mensah is a new name on the wires, Ghana international and Rennes centre-back Mensah is a highly regarded player and both Bruce and his assistant Eric Black have watched him play recently.

Latics have dealt with Rennes successfully in the last 12 month signing both Mario Melchiot and Erik Edman from the French club, even so Rennes state it will take a massive £7 million to get Mensah off them, but he (Mensah) states that the Premier League is where he wants to be

Portsmouth are also interested in Mensah so Rennes could be hoping for the highest bidder

Socratis Papastathopoulos the Greek international and AEK Athens youngster is another centre-back that Bruce has his sights set on, a fee of £3 million plus would be required to take the 19 year old red hot prospect to the JJB

Vital Wigan can see this one coming off

Madjid Bougherra the Algerian and Charlton centre-back is another name in the frame, but it would appear that this is just purely speculation

Of course Vital Latics will let you know as soon as there are any developments on the transfer front.
