This weeks Wigan Evening Post 12th Man feature had one contribution from Vital Latics:

So Proud I Shed A Tear

A feeling of utter pride overcame me on Saturday evening as we were travelling back from London, I don’t mind admitting my eyes welled up and I shed a tear, Wigan Athletic in the FA cup final, I had to say it several times and it still wouldn’t sink in, what a fantastic achievement.

My first Latics game was an FA cup tie, against Halifax Town in November 1972, here we are nearly 41 years later and we have made the final of the oldest domestic cup competition in football

The way the fans, players and manager celebrated at the end of the game you could see quite clearly what this meant to everyone involved in the club. We looked a class above Millwall on the field of play, dare I say we were more than a class above off the field, no more needs to be said about that.

Unfortunately we have a relegation battle on our hands and must re-focus with some tough games on the horizon, and they’ll be coming thick and fast, it is a dress rehearsal for the final on Wednesday with a trip to the Etihad to face Manchester City, before travelling back down to London on Saturday to play West Ham

Hopefully tiredness won’t play any part in our season, the cup run will, fingers crossed, have a payoff in a positive manner and inspire our squad to be on top of their game, I have no doubt this will be the case

It looks dead cert that Reading and QPR have gone, but that final spot has at least six teams battling it out and some of those clubs are in terrible form at the moment. If we can continue picking up points like we have been doing of late, then come the end of the season we could have a double celebration on our hands

Come on you Latics…
