The current Mediterranean sunshine appears to be suiting Wigan Athletic down to the ground, a fantastic day out at Blackpool last Saturday, 3 goals scored, 3 points brought home but also a great display from the team who appear to be really enjoying their football.

Littered with players from sunnier climes, maybe we are a sunshine side, the form in the team as certainly picked up since the weather changed for the better a few weeks ago, after a drab winter the first flourish of spring could be seen in early February and this coincided with a great win against Blackburn that saw the Latics achieve their first win of the New Year.

Since then, the team have been blossoming, playing good football and hopefully it is all coming together for the final five games of the season.

First up is Sunderland away on Saturday, a win is needed to ensure that the Latics stay out of the bottom three, a win would also see the Latics reach 37 points which would put safety from relegation within touching distance.

Sunderland have had a serious dip in form lately, from experience we all know that Steve Bruce likes his team to play with lots of hard work and use percentage football, balls into the corners, as a tactic to put pressure on the opposition, with backs to the wall Sunderland will undoubtedly turn to type as they fight to avoid being dragged into a relegation scrap, we just need to keep hold of the ball and have them chasing shadows ala Blackpool.

Dry, sunny weather conditions definitely suits the passing style of football that Roberto Martinez has his team playing, possession football in hot temperatures is a must and Latics are accustomed to this, so a plea to the travelling support ahead of the trip to the Stadium of Light, take the weather with you and bring back the three points.
