Wigan Athletic stand in skipper Lee Cattermole understands the importance of the unbeaten run Latics are now on though he feels the lads need to start winning games as well as drawing.
Fantastic display yesterday from stand in skipper Lee Cattermole
Yesterdays match at Newcastle saw Catt captain the Latics with both Melchiot and Heskey being out injured and a captains performance he produced maintaining his defensive duties once Boyce had been sent off and battling to ensure that a result was achieved, he told the official site:
‘In the league we’re unbeaten in three games and that’s a good achievement, but we need to start making three points.
‘If Camara’s chance goes in then it’s game over and three points in the bag. But it wasn’t to be.
‘I thought in the first-half we started really well. We started getting a couple of injuries and ending up being on the back foot towards the end of the half.
‘But we came out in the second-half and started well pressing on again. The sending off changed the game and made it hard for us, but we battled on and in the end got a good result.’
On Boyce`s sending off Cattermole was being very diplomatic saying that he explained to referee Andy Marriner that Boyce had got the ball, he continued:
‘From my view I clearly saw him get the ball. We explained to the referee but he had already sent him off and couldn’t do anything about it. You’ve just got to take it on the chin and get on with it.’
With Latics falling behind with just five minutes to go Cattermole could have been forgiven for thinking his first stint as Latics skipper was going to end in defeat but up stepped former Newcastle player Titus Bramble to silence the boos from the home crowd and make Cattermole a very happy man, he said:
‘It was nice for Titus to score against his old club. He was getting jeered a few times during the game so it was good for him to get the final laugh at the end.’
Captain Catt, nice one
