Wigan Athletic have agreed to let Paul Scharner have a get out clause in his new contract with the Latics but have insisted on a realistic price tag of £6 million.

It would seem that chairman Dave Whelan has learned from lessons of the past with Nathan Ellington, Jimmy Bullard and to some extent Leighton Baines and put the amount in the contract that the player is actually worth.

Get out clauses are by no means uncommon in the world of professional football and they are a way of providing a bit of security to both player and the club.
