Wigan Athletic will start the next campaign as a Championship club, though we have been superb this season there is a step up between the two divisions and if we want to be competitive we will certainly need to strengthen.

Obviously we won’t want to be fleeced again on transfer fees or wages, but there may be one or two quality players available from the top flight that we could pick up for nothing, some nearing the end of their careers, some just not quite making the grade in the Premier League but more than capable at Championship level.

As the summer nears and contracts come to an end, should the Latics be interested in any of the following free transfers?

The Chronicle Live have done the legwork on this one so I take no blame, compiling the ‘main’ players at each club who could find themselves unemployed come the summer for a period of time until they pick up a new club or potentially hang up their boots.

But there are some interesting names on the list who you would think could still do a decent job in one capacity or another, and the question becomes do you think they could do a job for the Latics in the 2016/17 Championship campaign?

It must be noted, this isn’t the full list of top flight players out of contract come the end of the current campaign, just the more accepted ‘first team squad’ members.

Out of the 47 listed – any take your fancy?
