Wigan Athletic are being linked with a move for Joao Carlos, the Brazilian born defender who plays in Belgium for Genk.

The Latics were close to singing the former CSKA Moscow player in August but time ran out and the deal couldn`t be done before the transfer window shut, now boss Roberto Martinez is expected to renew his interest in the Genk captain.

Joao Carlos obtained Belgium nationality and so wouldn`t need a work permit if the Latics managed to sign him.
