Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has said that the Latics won’t be selling striker Hugo Rodallega.

With the Colombia international entering the final year of his current deal at the DW Stadium and speculation regarding interest from various clubs, Whelan is eager that talks open on a new contract to keep the Latics all time Premier League record goal scorer at the club.

In recent weeks Arsenal, Aston Villa, Everton, Newcastle, Liverpool and Stoke have all been linked with a move for Rodallega but as of yet the Latics haven’t received any offers.

Currently on leave following his exploits in the Copa America, Rodallega and his new contract will be top of the agenda once he arrives back in the UK.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Whelan said: “We’ll be talking to Hugo when he gets back from the Copa America, and as far as I know he’s happy here. We’d like him to stay”

“We’ve not had an offer in for Hugo, and I would imagine Roberto (Martinez) will be keen to get something sorted on that one.

“We do not want to be selling him, though – absolutely not.”
