Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce is looking forward to the Christmas schedule with confidence as the Latics gear up for Newcastle United at home on Boxing Day and a local derby away at the Reebok against Bolton Wanderers on the 28th
Looking back on the last seven fixtures Bruce sees a much changed Latics from the one he inherited last year that was low on confidence and set a drift at the foot of the table.
This year Latics sit proudly in 11th spot in the table with a game in hand on the clubs around and the team going in to games with a belief that they can actually win, Bruce told reporters:
‘We have only lost one of the last seven in the Premier League and we could have got something from Arsenal.
‘We are starting to get our rewards. We had a bright start to the season and people were telling me what a good side we were. We then weren’t getting the results we deserved, now we are. It’s also important that we make sure we do not drop our standards.
‘It’s my job to make sure we don’t get carried away with ourselves thinking we have cracked it. We are in a good position and I’m pleased with what we have done in the year.
‘The difference between us now and a year ago is there for everyone to see. The progression has been great and it needs to be maintained. It is our job to keep striving to get better.
‘We have a tough run of games in January and February but we will go into the holiday games with a lot of confidence.’
