Vital Wigan is currently running the ‘Latics Best Ever` series and we are now up to the best ever goalkeeper to have played for Wigan Athletic and there have been many greats down the years.

My own personal favourite is Aussie legend John Filan, he came to the club when we were in Division 2 from Premier League side Blackburn Rovers for a big fee and with a big reputation.

In his time at the Latics Filan earned his fee several times over and surpassed his reputation as an outstanding goalkeeper

Filan was part of the Latics side that rose like a rocket from the lower reaches of the football league to the dizzy heights of the Premier League and when former boss Paul Jewell was asked who had been his best signing whilst in charge at the Latics, without hesitation he replied John Filan.

There have of course been other great keepers to stand between the sticks, Roy Tunks, Mike Pollitt, Nigel Adkins and we have Englands number one Chris Kirkland there at the moment, so a difficult choice, I have made mine now its your turn.

The poll is available for all to vote on and can be found on the right side of this page.
