Wigan Athletic are about to allow Erik Edman to leave on a free transfer with a number of clubs in Holland, France and Denmark registering an interest in the Sweden international and look to replace him in the squad with former Manchester City and Everton left back Michael Ball.
Edman has revealed through his agent, Allan Bak Jensen, that he will discuss the possible moves with his family before making a final decision, meanwhile 30 year old Michael Ball has been training with the Latics for a number of weeks in order to regain his fitness following an operation on his knee cap back in January and during this time he has certainly impressed Roberto Martinez
It is understood that Ball has agreed a deal with the Latics and will fill Edmans place in the squad, the out of contract left back can sign on immediately with him being a free agent and doesn`t need to wait until the new transfer window opens in Janary.
Speaking about Michael Ball Latics boss Roberto Martinez says: ‘He’s had a lot of problems with his injury, but he is recovering, trying to get match fitness, and now he is looking sharp.
‘He’s got great experience and it’s great to have him around.’
