Latics returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers. The highlight of the night being Ryan Colclough netting two goals, before turning up at hospital still in his kit, in time for the birth of his second son. It even made National TV. Before we go any further, big shout out to Bury who beat league leaders Shrewsbury 1-0, maybe you have the best squad in the league after all.

Paul Cook make 4 changes to the side that lost to Bradford on Saturday, with Reece James, Lee Evans, Ryan Colclough and Will Grigg all starting.

Wigan started on the front foot, almost taking an early lead when Michael Jacobs’ long range effort was well saved. The pressure payed off on 40 minutes when Jacobs grabbed his sixth goal of the season, unleashing a low shot which deflected past Ian Lawlor.

We quickly doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time. Colclough beat defenders with ease, before stroking the ball into the bottom corner to give us a commanding lead heading into the break.

Colclough debated being substituted at half-time, but decided to kill the game off first and add a third goal. The winger headed in from close-range, then sprinted down the tunnel and headed to hospital. Could of stayed for the hat-trick.

The home side missed opportunities to put the cherry on the cake, but credit to Doncaster’s ‘keeper who made some cracking saves.

A comfortable home win was what we needed after Saturday’s blip. The return of Colclough to the starting line-up was a huge plus, hopefully he continues the goal scoring form and starts to fulfill the huge potential he has. Saturday coming is the biggest week of the season so far. Shrewsbury vs Bradford and Scunthorpe vs Charlton. A couple of draws and a Latics win over Rotherham would see us top of the league and a margin clear of 3rd.

Up the ‘tics.
