I don’t know about you, but every time I see Wigan are second in the Premiership, I have to pinch myself. I must admit, I’m getting a bit bruised, so I’ll have to stop checking to see if I’m dreaming or not!

Goals from Chimbonda and Roberts were enough to see of Pompey.

Paul Jewell said of the momentous day that took us to first in the league (you have to discount Chelsea, they are in their own league!). ‘If we can get to 40 points as quickly as possible then great, who knows we might need more than that. But if and when we get there we may look at other things. At the moment, everything is geared to reaching our target.’

Adding, on the official site: ‘We were excellent in the second half. This isn’t an easy place to come but we really took the game to them. We’re very pleased.’
