Latics dropped to a deserved 1-2 defeat at the hands of Bradford, our first loss at home in the league since March. It was an off-day, defence looked shaky from the off and once Nick Powell went off injured, we never really threatened to score. We are back at the DW on Tuesday against Doncaster Rovers, an opportunity to get back on track.

Paul Cook named an unchanged side from our last league game, with Michael Jacobs returning to the starting line-up.

The visitors took control of the game from the off and should have been ahead on five minutes but Charlie Wyke’s effort sailed over the crossbar. However, nine minutes later he made up for the miss. Jamie Jones made a brilliant save, but Wyke was there to bundle home.

We responded well to conceding and drew level on 25 minutes through Chey Dunkley powering in from a Max Power corner.

Powell limped off through injury and was replaced by Gary Roberts. Bradford should have went into the break ahead, thankfully Paul Taylor’s header hit the post and went wide.

The second half was more of the same. Latics failing to create any goalscoring opportunities and Bradford failing to convert there’s. The match looked destined to be a draw until Tyrell Robinson cracked a shot from 25 yards, which gave the visitors all three points.

We’ve responded well to defeats this season, hopefully we do the same on Tuesday. I suspect Will Grigg will start, possibly a change to two upfront with Powell expected to miss out. All in all, a disappointing day on every front, but take the wins with the losses and respond.
