With Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers due to face each other at Molineux on Saturday both managers, Latics boss Roberto Martinez and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy have spoken to the press in the build up to the game, lets see what they had to say:
Latics boss Roberto Martinez:
‘It’s been a strange period with so many postponements due to the weather and in a way it’s made the players more anxious and excited about the games we have coming up’
‘As we said before it was important to use the January transfer-window to help the squad we have, offer new dimensions and eradicate all the inconsistency we’ve showed so far. That’s something we’re looking forward to putting right and we’ll continue to improve on a daily basis.
‘The three players who have come in are all internationals at a great moment in their career. They are desperate to play for Wigan Athletic and desperate to be successful, factors that are important at this point of the season.
‘Molineux is a tough place to go at any point in the season. Wolves have a great team-spirit and a great intensity to their game which we’ll have to match on Saturday. They have players who can hurt you and we need to focus on being ourselves and imposing ourselves on the game to get the right result.
‘Mick (McCarthy) is full of experience, won promotion with the group of players he has and they’ve shown that momentum and togetherness so far this season. It makes them a very tough opposition and we’re looking forward to the challenge hoping the game will take place in light of what’s happened over the last few weeks.
‘One big positive is that we have no injury news. Everyone has been training well and using this period to recover from knocks and niggles, and now the players are ready to take on Wolves.’
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy:
“They`ve had some good results beating Chelsea and Sunderland, but clearly they`ve had a mixed bag like ourselves, West Ham, Bolton, Blackburn and any other teams down there.”
“Roberto has stuck to what he believes in and tried to play football, I`m sure they`ll continue to play that way. It`s not about just having one way to play, but you have a way of playing which you try to stick to.
“I`m sure he tried to change players around to get those in who can play that way.”
“Charles N`Zogbia is a really good player. Hugo Rodallega`s a really good player as well as Jason Scotland, who was a threat in the Championship.
“They had a good season in the Premier League last year and have certainly got plenty of threats.”
