Following yesterdays 2-2 draw between Wigan Athletic and Newcastle United at St. James` Park, both managers spoke to the press about what was a dramatic ending to the game after the Latics stormed into a 2-0 first half lead only for the Geordies to pull a goal back in the last 20 minutes and snatch the equaliser in the 93rd, any way let`s see what the bosses made of it all:

Latics boss Roberto Martinez:

‘Obviously it is disappointing – I felt that the performance from the players deserved the three points and we were well, well in control throughout.

‘And to score the two goals that we scored from open play, everything was exactly what we wanted to do and it is disappointing when the last kick of the game is a corner, is a set play, and that was the only way that Newcastle could hurt us and that’s disappointing.

‘But in a way it’s where we are – we need to learn from these experiences because at the moment we’ve got a very, very talented squad, very young and obviously the talent allows you to go two-nil up but then the know-how and experience is what it should allow you to reflect the scoreline through the performances that we had.

‘So it’s a bit of mixed feelings and obviously the players don’t deserve to have the feeling that they’ve got now in the dressing room.’

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton:

‘(It was) a point and very well deserved. We committed a little bit of suicide in that first half period up against a very good Wigan side that play a system that’s a well drilled system and they’ve got good players to play that system.

‘But we were comfortable enough, even though we didn’t keep the amount of possession we would have liked and in a mad couple of minutes we gave away two very poor goals and of course at two-nil down you know its going to be very difficult to get back from that.’

‘Its about belief, you have to send the team out with a belief in that second half that you can get back into this game.

‘But is always the goal, the first goal that gives them that belief and willingness to want to go on and perhaps get an equaliser and maybe even win the game.

‘I think once Shola’s goal went in it was a dangerous period because of the way that they play, when you’re pushing forward to get that equaliser there’s every chance you can leave yourself open to concede a third goal.

‘But we got that one at a good time and it was well deserved on the balance of play.’
