Following yesterdays game between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic at Molineux, both bosses, Roberto Martinez and Mick McCarthy have spoken to the press, lets take a look at what they have been saying:

Latics boss Roberto Martinez:

‘Whenever you’re playing teams who are around you in the table and have similar aims there is also a special significance in the game.

‘The biggest challenge we had on Sunday was to make sure the importance of the game didn’t affect our performance and we did that well.

‘In the first 20 minutes we set the standards and looked a real threat both on and off the ball.

‘The second goal typified our performance, great movement off the ball and confidence in a flowing move, and all round it was a display fully worthy of three points.

‘When you look at the game earlier in the season against Newcastle we were in the same situation but unable to come away with the three points we should have. At Wolves we showed the lessons we’ve learnt and the know-how to complete the game with a victory.

‘Taking into consideration the amount of players we out missing from the squad there was a lot of responsibility on those who took to the field, and the overall performance is something to be very proud of.

‘And after conceding a goal late on I was pleased with the manner in which we coped with whatever Wolves threw at us in the closing stages.

‘We used the experiences from St. James’ Park earlier in the season to good effect and were determined not to throw away all the hard work we’d produced within a few minutes towards the end.’

Wolves boss Mick McCarhy:

‘We will never know how we really would have played.

‘We were 1-0 down from a corner kick and we made two mistakes and we got punished for them.

‘They were both poor goals to concede and we had the ball on both occasions.’

‘I think we had a stone-wall penalty turned down and I think we should have scored from a free-kick and then we committed suicide by giving the second goal away.’
