Following the defeat at Swansea, Latics boss Roberto Martinez was a little, shall we say guarded in his comments regarding the ‘goal’ that was disallowed for offside following a header by Kone from a Beausejour cross, anything to do with an 8 grand fine Bobby? Swansea boss Michael Laudrop on the other hand was mightily relieved on ending a five game winless streak, let’s take a look at what they did say:

Latics boss Roberto Martinez – ‘It’s a big call. When I was watching live, it looked level.

‘It’s an extremely tight decision, and it’s a shame because it was an outstanding piece of play.

‘It was a great finish from Kone and a great ball from Jean Beausejour.

‘It was a call which didn’t go our way. It was really costly. I felt it would have been an interesting final 10 minutes because we could have won the game.

‘Sometimes you want to be honest with the referee’s decision, but I have learned my lesson. I cannot really comment.

‘I need to accept it and give an official answer. Sometimes the calls go your way, sometimes they don’t. But I thought we deserved a point.’

Swansea boss Michael Laudrop – ‘You can say there is a mixture of joy and relief, we knew today was very important for us and I think if you see the game the players played with a lot of confidence and patience’

‘You know when you really want something, in this case a win, you cannot think you can do it in 10 minutes. At this level it takes 90 or 94 minutes and that is what happened.’
