What The Bosses Said – Latics Vs Pompey

Following yesterdays game at the JJB between Wigan Athletic and Portsmouth, both bosses Steve Bruce and Paul Hart looked back on the game and on the season, lets see what they had to say:

Latics boss Steve Bruce:

‘Overall, I do believe that you are where you finish. For a club like ours to finish 11th, considering the changes we made in January, then everyone can go away, especially after today, with a smile on their face and say ‘Well, job well done”

‘I thought we were excellent – I thought our movement was terrific upfront.

‘If we have got an Achilles heel, I think we are in the top five or six for attempts on goal, but if you’ve seen it today we must have missed chance after chance after chance and didn’t take enough of them, but I think we were worthy winners and could have won more comfortably.

‘So that’s one area we have to improve on that we’ll do that I’m sure’

‘Rodallega’s got better and I think he will be a real, real force next year if he keeps improving like he has’

‘I would love to say that Luis Antonio Valencia will stay, but I would find it difficult given the size of the clubs queuing up for him’

‘At the stage of his career, he deserves to play for a big club and it would be difficult to deny him that.

‘But that’s the way it is. We have to keep finding the players, and then we sell them on to the big boys.’

Pompey boss Paul Hart:

‘Regarding my future, I’ll get home and reflect on the last couple of months and see what happens.

‘It was a very poor performance today over all. It was not very inspiring in the first half, although we improved in the second.

‘We had a chunk taken out of the team, we lost four players to a virus and we showed a lot of spirit not to go under.’

Well that`s the last ‘What the Bosses Said` for a while, theres been some interesting reactions this season and bosses have seen things very differently than what happened on the pitch

Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear claimed they ‘were the better side` after we beat them 1-0, in all honesty it should have been 3 or 4 we were that much more superior and recently Sir Alex Ferguson said that the referee was biased against them when his Manchester United side came from behind to win 2-1 at the JJB, yeah right.

There has also been some honest comments, Gareth Southgate felt his Middlesbrough side had ‘got out of jail` by snatching a 90th minute winner after being hammered for the previous 89 minutes and 45 seconds.

Well next season there will be no doubts some honest and some less than honest appraisal and also some funny quotes from that strange breed of people known as football managers, till the next time.
