A tough game at the DW Stadium on Saturday, but the Latics fought hard and managed to secure the points through Martyn Waghorn’s 33rd minute goal.

Following the game both managers spoke to the media, let’s take a look at what they had to say:

Latics boss Uwe Rösler – ‘We were under pressure today and I had hoped for more from the substitutes in terms of creating play on the ball and giving us a chance to get out of our defence.

‘I was hoping for more passes, but we got sucked into Leeds’ way of football, there were a lot of long balls, second balls and it became a scrappy game.

‘That’s not our game, but we got the three points and at this stage in the season it’s the only thing that matters.

‘We ground out the result and we have the quality to do so, but we also have the quality to play well and win and in that respect we have got ourselves a top team.’

Leeds boss Brian McDermott – ‘The important thing is to stay in the game in this league and we did that, there was nothing between these two sides at all.

‘We have not stayed in games recently, so today was an important experience.

‘Wigan will be a force to reckon with, but we kept our shape and we have to move on positively for the next game.’
