Latics drew their third away blank on Saturday in terms of goals, in those three away games we have had 30 attempts at the opposition goal with just 5 on target, pretty dismal reading and a real problem for the boss to sort out.
The trip to the John Smiths Stadium was one that the supporters were looking forward to, unfortunately due to our inability to convert pressure into goals we fell to the sucker punch five minutes before the end of the game, allowing Huddersfield to claim all the points, after the game both bosses spoke to the media, let’s take a look at what they had to say:
Latics boss Uwe Rösler – ‘Not putting the ball in the net is a problem we’ve identified before this game, and it’s disappointing when you consider the amount of possession we’re having in games.
‘When we find the momentum in games we need to score goals’
‘The result of course is very disappointing, but from a football point-of-view it is one of the best performances since I’ve been at the club.
‘We played some very good football in difficult conditions and limited Huddersfield to few opportunities, particularly in the second half.
‘Our shape was good and I was delighted with the way in which we attacked the opposition but when you don’t score from those moments the other side always have a chance.
‘Their goal came from a clearance we couldn’t make, and was helped by the wind behind it.
‘Overall, I’m as happy as is possible after a defeat.’
Huddersfield boss Mark Robins – ‘We have beaten a good side in Wigan. They are one of the teams who will be in the shake-up come the end of the season.’
‘I am delighted with the win because the conditions were so tough’
‘At times it looked like no one had played the game before but I thought what quality there was on show came from us.
‘The game was just strange and surreal and the conditions dictated it.
‘For a long time it looked like it would be a mistake that settled the game, and a goal would go in off the back of someone’s head or their backside.’
