Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City played out a goalless draw at St. Andrews yesterday and there was quite a bit of incident with a sending off, a nasty injury and of course Charles N`Zogbia running the gauntlet with the home fans, following the game both bosses spoke to the press, let`s see what they had to say:

Latics boss Roberto Martinez:

‘I felt the concentration and the way we worked for each other was really good,’ said the manager.

‘Birmingham City have found a winning formula and they’re very effective, but we had the better chances in the game and that speaks volumes of our performance. We had a little bit more quality and I think the understanding and the final pass will come, and that’s the next stage of getting the full-potential from the squad, but as a performance away from home, it was perfect.

‘I think we were really well organised, and had the concentration and the ability to sense danger for the second ball. I think we did that really, really well, and we never had any major problems in that respect.

‘Going forward, we got into the better positions in the game, and we feel that on another day you would have found a way to put the chances away, but I am really pleased with the game.

‘It was another positive result. Playing against Birmingham City was not easy, but we achieved a result with a very professional performance.’

‘We are getting stronger in all departments’

‘The concentration that we had today and the way that we worked off the wall was great. It was a real team effort.

‘It’s important that with the options that we’ve got upfront, those players are fresh enough and ready to make an impact. That’s what we’ve got at the moment, and anyone can come in and make the real difference that is needed to win the game.

‘Overall I’m very pleased with the competition that we’re developing and the level of performance of certain players. All of this shows that they’re starting to settle into the way that you play in the Premier League and it will take a little bit of time, but it’s exciting to see all that talent there waiting to be used.’

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish:

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish:
‘The unbeaten record is a phenomenal achievement, a great credit to everybody at the club, but the players are the guys who have to go out there and do it and they deserve a pat on the back.

‘Wigan were a handful. We probably had the best of the chances but had to be on our toes for their quick movement up front, they gave us some problems but our two centre backs were immense.

‘Gardner’s studs were a little high and nowadays when your studs show and you make contact it usually results in red card. A couple of years ago maybe it would have been a booking, but I don’t think we will be appealing.’
