Wigan Athletic lost 3-1 at Wolves on Sunday, a result that leaves the Latics stranded at the foot of the Premier League and without so much as a point from their last eight games. With just four goals scored in those eight games its quite clear where the problem lies and boss Roberto Martinez is finding himself under pressure has he tries to find a solution to the current predicament.

Speaking after the game Martinez said that it’s not up to him when asked about his future at the club, the Spaniard said he was ‘just focusing on trying to learn from the performance’, well he had better learn quickly if he is to save the Latics season from being a total disaster.

Speaking to the media Martinez said: ‘That’s not for me [to decide on his future]. I’m just focusing on trying to learn from today’s performance and make sure we get the right mixture on the pitch.

‘The characters are desperate to prove a point and desperate to play for Wigan Athletic. That is where my focus and concentration goes and whatever else goes around it is football.

‘We’re on the back of a very bad run that we need to turn around quickly.’

‘I thought the first goal affected our performance a little bit too much.

‘We had a great chance, a one-on-one situation, we normally take those, then it goes to the other end and it is a little bit of a soft goal.

‘From then on, the day seemed like it was going to go into Wolves’ hands and that was disappointing.

‘We became a team trying everything then Wolves tried to sit back on the counter and we gave them two soft goals.

‘It is a clear lesson. We have to take the chances and tighten up at the back, but the differences are very, very small.’
