The Latics were quite disappointing in the 4-0 home defeat to Arsenal on Saturday, once they fell behind in the 28th minute there was no coming back and the fight seemed to suck out of the team, they gave the Gunners too much room and got punished.

Speaking after the game Latics boss Roberto Martinez held his hands up and admitted his side were far from good enough, no arguing there, Martinez said: ‘Arsenal are a good side and we all know that, but the first two goals that we conceded were really soft from our point of view.

‘From then on we couldn’t get on the ball and weren’t brave enough and we allowed Arsenal too much space on the ball.’

‘There are certain moments when you need to hold your hands up because today we were nowhere near getting a positive result.

‘When we conceded the first goal and then the second straight after it really affected us.

‘The corner is a really poor goal for us to give away and it becomes a really tough job for the second half.

‘You have to give credit to Arsenal and their attacking threat and the way that they move the ball around the pitch.’

‘We need to move on from this game now and get ready for West Bromwich Albion away next weekend.’
