Former Wigan Athletic player John Doolan has returned to the club almost 20 years since he first joined, the midfield terrier made 38 appearances for the Latics during the early 1990’s, he has now taken up the post of Under 18 coach which became available when Dave Watson recently moved to Newcastle.

Doolan has been gaining lots of experience at both Liverpool and Everton academies working with youngsters and the reserve teams for the past ten years. Speaking to Latics official site Doolan says: ‘I’m delighted to be back at the club, to be taking on what is a really exciting challenge’

Latics boss Roberto Martinez is delighted to have Doolan on board, this was evident when he said about the new addition to his backroom staff: “John really impressed at interview, he has great passion for the game and terrific experience of coaching at youth level. He understands what our club is all about having played here and we welcome him on board.”
