Wigan Athletic put in a patient, professional display yesterday against Wolves to take the three points, keep a clean sheet and move out of the bottom three, against a Wolves side that had Karl Henry sent off in the 16th minute for a spot of GBH on Jordi Gomez.

Now some people say playing against ten men is easy, but not when any attacking intention go firmly out of the window and the defence is packed solid, well marshalled and resolute, thats when it takes a bit of patience to unlock that defence.

Latics played with that patience yesterday, refusing to play panic football they knocked the ball around, making Wolves chase, grow tired and when we took the lead in the 65 minute we took the stuffing out of the game with some good possession football.

There were some good performers for the Latics, Alcaraz and Di Santo were solid and hard working at either end of the pitch, the much maligned Jordi Gomez had possibly his best game since joining at the start of last season and he scored a beauty of a free kick, thats three starts and three goals for the former Espanyol man so far this season.

For me though James McCarthy was superb from start to finish, he played with a steely determination, hardly wasted possession and looked to shoot on sight, so McCarthy for me but who was your top performer?
