The Wigan Athletic performance on the whole may have been somewhat subdued in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away at Aston Villa, but there were some individual’s that had good games.

Rather than go through the entire team I thought that Diame, Stam and van Aanholt had decent enough games, but for me both Ali Al-Habsi and Franco Di Santo were the pick of the bunch. Quite difficult to separate actually, Franco ploughed a lonely furrow up front but he did so manfully and should have won a penalty for his side when he was bundled over by Hutton, he was also unlucky with a late effort that Villa keeper Given gathered.

Ali produced a few great saves, one in particular in the first half was outstanding, he somehow managed to keep a Bent shot out by firstly deflecting the effort with his left knee and then clawing the ball away from goal with his right hand, fantastic stuff
