A dogged if unspectacular performance as the Latics gained a one nil victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the DW Stadium last night, a Jordi Gomez goal from the penalty spot and an Ali Al Habsi save, again from the penalty spot ensured we got all the points.
As far as standout performances go I thought Boycey was once again good, James Perch played well and Ali made his penalty save, but for me the man of the match was between Jordi Gomez and James McClean.
McClean had a very good first half and caused Wednesday problems every time he was on the ball, but I will plump for Gomez, he was very good on the ball, always looked for the pass and he kept his nerve to slot home the decisive penalty with just 90 minutes on the clock.
