Wigan Athletic came unstuck again yesterday searching for a second consecutive win as they let a half-time lead slip to lose the game 3-2 with Birmingham City showing strong in a 30 minute second half spell.

The Latics lost Chris Kirkland through injury after 20 minutes but dominated the first half in possession and chances, Charles N`Zogbia was excellent scoring a great goal and he was supported well by a buoyant Paul Scharner. Hugo Rodallega had a quiet game by his standards and his altercation with Birmingham defender Roger Johnson seemed to affect him.

Across the back Maynor Figueroa for me was the pick of the bunch, solid and bright, but all that was in the first half.

Latics fell away dramatically following the re-start and the midfield seemed non-existent as Birmingham bossed and bullied possession and by 70 minutes they`d turned round a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead, that seemed to inspire a Latics fight back along with a Martinez re-shuffle

Boyce and Diame were taken off and Scoot Sinclair and Jordi Gomez introduced to the game with Scharner dropping to central defence, both the substitutes looked lively when they came on and wanted the ball, they brought a spark to the team and indeed Gomez grabbed Latics a life line with a very well taken free-kick to put his side back in the game at 3-2, unfortunately it was too late.

For me the N`Zogbia, Figueroa and Scharner had big games and Gomez looked good when he came on but I will go for little Charlie as the man of the match.

Do you agree or would you have picked someone else? The man of the match poll is on the right side of this page, just select your option and hit the submit button, its that easy.
