Vital Wigan members and posters have produced a Latics Top 50 Footballers list and there are some great players on that list and their names really do conjure up some fantastic memories. The members of Vital Latics have also created some very unique pen-pictures of their hero’s, these are being published in no particular order:
Signed for £275k from Peterborough during the 2002/2003 season, Jimmy Bullard epitomised the spirit and commitment that ran throughout the squad during the meteoric rise to the Premier League.
Arguably as well known for his comedy antics as well as his footballing ability, Bullard left a massive impression on everyone at the club.
If he wasn’t leapfrogging Everton players in the penalty area or winding up Duncan Ferguson, he was pulling down Thierry Henrys shorts and scoring a goal during a floodlight failure.
Our 10th place finish and Carling Cup final appearance was attributed as much to the spirit within the team as it was the ability of the players and Jimmy was the driving force behind this. Rumour has it that grown men cried when Bullard announced at the training ground that he was leaving for Fulham!
For his commitment, his energy levels and his undoubted talent (comedy or otherwise!) Jimmy Bullard is 100% deserving of a place in this list.
