Vital Wigan members and posters have produced a Latics Top 50 Footballers list and there are some great players on that list and their names really do conjure up some fantastic memories. The members of Vital Latics have also created some very unique pen-pictures of their hero’s, these are being published in no particular order:

Jason De Vos

Appearances – 90
Goals – 15
Position – Centre Half
Best Moment – Lifting the Division 2 Title Trophy in 2003

When six foot five inch Jason De Vos arrived at Wigan from Dundee United in 2001 everyone knew what to expect from him and boy did he deliver.

The Canadian captain was an uncompromising defender but his greatest strength was his ability in the air at both ends of the pitch. Very rarely was he beaten in the air by an opposing striker which paid massive dividends in 2002/03 when Wigan only conceded 25 league goals.

Jason by then had taken over as club captain following the exit of fans favourite Arjan De Zeeuw to Portsmouth and led the team to the then Division 2 title amassing a very healthy 100 points during the season.

His performances in the opposition’s penalty area were equally as impressive with a 1 in 6 goal return.

Jason left Wigan in 2004 for Championship rivals Ipswich Town before the Latics promotion to the Premier League. Gone but not forgotton and fondly remembered I think.
