Vital Latics Match Reports

Very Rocky Horror Show

Wigan Athletic went down to Portsmouth on Halloween in hope of carrying on where they had left off against Burnley the previous week, unfortunately no treats were served up by the visitors and the home side tricked an away side into conceding four goals for the second time in four days.

Latics, though not the better side, had held their own until 10 minutes from the break when two goals, one literally right on the stroke of half-time virtually killed off Roberto`s men.

Jamie O`Hara bossed the midfield for Portsmouth, N`Zogbia looked anything but comfortable at left back for the Latics and when Hugo Rodallega tumbled over the advertising hording, down a ditch and in to the crowd on 30 minutes it seemed to knock the stuffing not only out of the Colombia international but also his team.

Pompey`s opener came on 35 minutes when former Latics favourite Michael Brown sent a through ball into the path of Aruna Dindane who out paced Melchiot before firing over an advancing Kirkland.

Jason Scotland had a great chance to equalise but almost hit the corner flag.

Frederic Piquionne grabbed Portsmouth`s second goal 3 minutes into stoppage time at the end of the half firing under the advancing Kirkland, 2-0 and the half-time whistle blew immediately.

The second half and the Latics found themselves under the cosh, Dindane tapped in his second and Pompey`s third on 64 minutes and he completed his hat-trick and the goal scoring when following Boyces trip on Kanu in the area on 90 minutes Dindiane fired home the resultant penalty.

A bad day at the office for the Latics, nothing else to be said, seven days to lick their wounds after the mauling before Fulham are in town for a Sunday fixture at the DW Stadium, lets hope all the skeletons are out of the closet and no ghosts will be coming back to haunt is this week.

Lets hope we can get back to winning ways next Sunday

I cannot see us going to Blackburn with nothing but a win on our mind. After such an excellent performance, we must go for the win. Blackburn aren’t any better than Wigan!

Wigan must be the most schizophrenic side in the premier league at the moment. When it all clicks for you you are a very good side and capable of taking points off the likes of us and Chelsea. When it doesn’t click; OH DEAR! Still, Pompey aren’t as bad as everyone makes out and they have been playing well without getting results, so don’t really know what to make of this match.

I nearly went to this match, glad I didn’t now. I feel a bit sorry for the traveling supporter.

Pompey are a good side and won’t go down but I’m afraid the Latics were awful.

Burnley, Birmingham and Hull will go down I think. Wigan will survive.
